President´s Office

About the role

As Chief Learning Officer (CLO) at Stockholm School of Economics you will have a key role in supporting the school in realizing its strategy and educational mission. The role involves supporting faculty and staff in cultivating broader pedagogical capabilities, including strong leadership, digital literacy, and a growth mindset. With respect to learning methods, the trend is to complement traditional classroom instruction with approaches that can provide learning to more of SSE’s stakeholders, in more customized ways. This involves going beyond onsite and residential delivery of education to include approaches such as “online”, “live-online”, “blended learning”, “hybrid”, and “cascade” solutions.

The CLO will work in close collaboration with the Head of Pedagogy and the Chief Technology Officer. The CLO role involves a broad responsibility across both degree and executive education programs, covering everything from planning training events to creating microlearning content and matching business goals to the right type of learning.

Expectations on the role as CLO

Being a good team player is obviously key to being a good CLO. As CLO you are passionate about learning and development, and therefore closely track future training trends. You are the kind of person who early adopts new technology and influence others to do the same. You are also quick to test theories and adopt new solutions. However, you are not married to your own ideas. You love to learn from others and are quick to accept the best way to do things, no matter where that solution came from. Further, as a CLO you don’t see organizations as a collection of departments and silos, but as the parts that make up a whole. You foster an atmosphere of school-wide cooperation and collaboration, and you see each employee as a crucial factor in the organization’s success.

Role in the SSE organization

In this role you will implement strategies to further develop SSE’s pedagogical excellence across both degree and non-degree programs, and to help our faculty develop their pedagogical skills, as well as implement solutions using the latest digital tools. You will:

  • Report to the VP Degree Programs
  • Work closely together with a Learning Council, including the VP Degree Programs and the CEO SSE Executive Education, to align learning and development efforts/resources where they matter most
  • Work closely with the SSE Head of Pedagogy

Work closely with the Chief Technology Officer to support technology adoption

Specific job description

As the Chief Learning Officer, you will play a critical role in transforming the way Stockholm School of Economics designs programs (Learning, Development) as well as how we create, curate and deliver development experiences and modernize our delivery methods. You are a thought leader in the space of Learning and Development internally and externally. It’s imperative to possess and demonstrate passion and expertise in adult learning and development, as you will serve as a trusted advisor to the faculty and all programs to accelerate our students’ and leaders’ effectiveness and impact.

You will over time build a team, work with the Learning Council, and engage in design and measurement for all programs – both degree and non-degree programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching; designing and building curriculum; developing assessments and analyzing student performance data
  • Experience developing differentiated instructional strategies that address achievement gaps and creating, organizing, and leading professional learning experiences for faculty and/or learning facilitators
  • Experience in professional project management

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Ability to assist the Head of Pedagogy, VP Degree Programs, and CEO Executive Education, in articulating a vision, setting high standards, and effectively guiding faculty in the realization of those expectations. Ability to have a holistic view and strategical standpoint.
