The House of Innovation at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) currently invites applications for a time-period of 20 months (with possibility for some extension), fully funded Postdoctoral position at the House of Innovation at the Stockholm School of Economics.

We are looking for candidates with a Ph.D. in Business Administration, or a closely related discipline (doctoral degree must be completed before taking up the position). Candidates should have a clear research interest in sustainable business development, entrepreneurship and/or SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises). Knowledge about public procurement would also be an advantage.

This project titled Public Procurement of Functions is designed to consider serious climate, resource and environmental challenges that are facing society today and how in dealing with these challenges, efforts need to be strengthened to find sustainable solutions. The changes which are occurring have critical implications for the sustainability of public procurement models (PPMs), while raising issues about how to design particular business models (BMs) and how they interact with and are dependent on the legal system. It will especially focus on entrepreneurship and SMEs. More specifically, the Public Procurement of Functions project will look to:

1. Analyze the challenges and opportunities of sustainable public procurement models (SPPMs). Looking at areas such as what organizational risks are inherent in SPPMs, to what extent and how may these risks be eliminated, reduced or at least kept under control.
2. Understand the interrelations, from a sustainable public procurement model perspective (SPPMs), and explore opportunities for the effective interplay between them, in order to develop competitive and environmentally friendly SPPMs.

The post doc would, therefore, focus on organizations, the “steering” of them or their “behavior”.

This transdisciplinary project draws together World leading researchers from Stockholm School of Economics and Linköping University in the areas of law, economic, social and technology sciences. The successful postdoctoral researcher will join the team and be led by Professor Sarah Jack. The project is funded through the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg (MMW) Foundation. This project and its dissemination will work to support public procurement and business entities in and beyond the Swedish context to turn the rapidly increasing challenges into opportunities, thereby increase society's resource efficiency and lower its negative environmental impact. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in the new and exciting innovative research project with high potential to get published in international peer reviewed journals.

Qualifications

• Have a Ph.D. (or be close to completion) in management and organization studies or related disciplines. The applicant is expected to possess strong conceptual and analytical (qualitative methods) skills and have a commitment to research excellence.
• Applicant should be completely fluent in English. (Knowledge of Swedish would be an advantage.)
• Experience in conducting theoretical and/or empirical research using conceptual and qualitative methods in one or more of the following areas is requested:
  • Entrepreneurship SME’s
  • Public Procurement
• Ability to manage time, resources, data, and details of multiple tasks are also required.
• Experience with external funding and grant application is a plus.

About the House of Innovation (HOI) at SSE

A newly formed unit within SSE, HOI offers an excellent, inter-disciplinary research, education and outreach environment focused on innovation, digitalization and entrepreneurship. HOI collaborates with a broad, influential network of academics, corporations, government agencies, and civil society actors, with the aim to contribute to the advancement of Swedish society and of the international community. HOI hosts the academic Department of Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Technology, the Jacob and Marcus Wallenberg Centre for Innovative and Sustainable Business Development and the Scania Centre of Innovation and Operational Excellence, but it also runs the SSE Business Lab start-up incubator and coordinates the SSE involvement in the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES), which oversees a consortium between the five major universities in Stockholm working to deliver entrepreneurship education across the wider Stockholm area and beyond.
