The Swedish House of Finance (SHoF) at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) is accepting applications for a full-time research analyst position. The candidate would ideally start working in September 2023 (an earlier or later starting date is also a possibility) and may work for up to two years, while applying for PhD in Finance, Economics, or another social science.
As a research analyst, you will be supporting cutting-edge research projects in macro-finance, household finance, entrepreneurship, human capital, and other related topics in Finance and Economics. You will work in close contact with researchers at SHoF. On a daily basis, you will work in SHoF and assist in research projects led by Assistant Professor Mehran Ebrahimian and his co-authors from world-leading universities. You will participate in all stages of the research projects: statistical analysis of big data, literature reviews, building/proofreading theoretical models, running simulations, estimations of statistical and economic models, and help in preparing presentation slides and drafting papers. Programming the quantitative economic models and running simulations will be your primary task.
Applicants should be completing (or have recently completed) a Master’s degree in Economics/Finance and have strong quantitative and statistical skills. You should be familiar with statistical and programming software, such as Stata, Matlab, and Python. IT competence and knowledge in machine learning is a plus. Since the job entails great responsibility in preparing data and running simulations for high-quality research, we expect you to be a detail-oriented and organized person, who is able to work independently and reliably.
Excellent spoken and written English is a requirement, Swedish language is a plus.
This program serves as a bridge between university and Ph.D. programs for students interested in Economics and Finance (the program is equivalent to a “pre-doc” program in the US). You will learn how to conduct rigorous research in Economics and Finance through personalized guidance from Mehran Ebrahimian and collaboration with the whole research team. This prepares you well for applying for graduate schools, fulltime RA positions, and related jobs in the industry. You will be exposed to the research work at SHoF and encouraged to attend the academic seminars held at SSE and SHoF, which are related to your interests and work. This position is a fixed-term employment. Besides salary, we offer an employee benefits package that includes pensions, wellness contributions, and excellent working conditions.
If you are interested, please upload a CV, transcripts, and a short cover letter at the Varbi link: [https://hhs.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:640368/]. In your cover letter please describe your interest in the position and career goals, your familiarity with different programming languages, any prior experience as a research assistant or with independent research, the date you are able to start work, and the ideal length of the work for you. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected candidates will be invited to an interview. Questions can be directed to mehran.ebrahimian@hhs.se.
