Education Office

The Education Office (EdO) is one of the Professional Services units at SSE. We are currently 57 staff members working in EdO. We function as a Hub in the SSE journey. We provide and develop professional academic support for all stakeholders and students (BSc, MSc, PhD) during their SSE journey. It includes assessment, program management, scholarships, international collaborations, and quality measurements, academic support, central course and exam coordination, degrees, and certificates.

A leadership role, at the level of the Stockholm School of Economics, in a front running European project: CIVICA.  

CIVICA – The European University of Social Science was selected in 2019 by the European Commission as one of the pilot European Universities funded under the Erasmus+ program, aimed at implementing and developing new forms of partnerships, with world-class universities or institutions in the field of social sciences.  

As the CIVICA Senior Manager, your role is twofold (1) to be the main liaison and actor for SSE’s activities internally and towards the CIVICA network (2) to fulfil and further develop SSE’s responsibilities in the CIVICA project with the CIVICA Engage track. 

SSE is one of CIVICA’s founding members with Sciences Po (France – alliance coordinator), Bocconi (Italy), The London School of Economics and Political Science (United Kingdom), Central European University (Austria and Hungary), European University Institute (Florence), Hertie School (Germany), National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (Romania), SGH Warsaw School of Economics (Poland) and IE University (Spain). 

Since 2019, CIVICA members have jointly developed innovative activities in education, research, outreach and civic engagement; the alliance is currently in the process of developing its long-term vision. 

We offer a leadership role in the CIVICA project, an international and effervescent environment, at one of the top business schools in Europe. Within the CIVICA network, you will successfully manage a strategic interplay with international key  stakeholders (Higher Education Institutions, Students, corporate and societal partners)   to drive and develop the CIVICA project further.  

The role 

Your tasks include, but are not limited to: 

(1) Lead all activities related to the implementation of the CIVICA project at SSE, such as:  

  • Identify and serve the needs of SSE’s CIVICA operations in the various work packages, in line with SSE’s international strategy. Represent and coordinate the interests of SSE in the draft of new applications within the CIVICA projects. Track milestones, tasks and deliverables and be responsible for SSE’s reporting to CIVICA,
  • Budget and financial tracking of all CIVICA operations at SSE,
  • Develop and implement marketing and information strategies for the CIVICA network internally and externally,
  • Be part of several work packages to guarantee progress of SSE’s CIVICA operations, including WP1, governance,  
  • Hosting and leading in-person and online meetings internally and externally. 

(2) Lead the development of the Engage track (Bachelor program) within the CIVICA alliance, in collaboration with all CIVICA partners and SSE CIVICA Academic Lead:

  • Capture the logic of partners’ local circumstances for the implementation of the Engage Track to propose improvements,
  • Develop suggestions for the sustainability of the Engage track in mid and long term.
  • Work on the scalability of the track with multiple partners (CIVICA partners and external partners) 

Your profile 

Used to being responsible for multiple processes you are well-organized as well as proactive, creative, and flexible. You are comfortable moving projects forward, and get things done efficiently and accurately in two ambitious and quite different environments; SSE and the CIVICA network.  You are self-confident and independent, used to working inclusively in diverse and international teams to achieve high goals. You are described as a leader who can make difficult decisions when needed and can address challenging situations. You thrive in emerging projects where routines and solutions need to be invented while navigating established structures. You are service minded and capable to creatively address multiple stakeholders with apparently conflicting demands.  You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and successful experiences in international projects. You are confident in dealing with senior members of staff, and other stakeholders to advance the project you represent. You have worked with feedback in a constructive way.  

Qualifications 

  • Track record of successful international project leadership and management.
  • An understanding of the European higher education sector. 
  • Work experience abroad. 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, in English. 

Meritorious: 

  • Previous experience in a similar role in a higher-education environment. 
  • Experience of EU projects and reporting.  
  • An academic education. 
  • Ability to communicate in multiple foreign languages or high cultural intelligence.

Other 

This is a full-time, permanent employment starting with a probationary period of 6 months.
